. Hardware merchandising (January-March 1908) . made acommendable display during the lastChristmas season, and with a modernplate glass store front, his effort wouldhave reproduced to much better advan-tage. The photo was taken late atnight, a half-hour exposure being lot of work has been put on the trim, and it deserved to bring results. Thewindow is large, the articles are priced, and if any criticism is offered it, it isthat the same thought has not beengiven to constructing some strong cen- 112 me a window eight feet long by fivefeet deep. These arches and pillars Icovered with light green cloth, to whichI arranged shears and scissors to one ofthe side arches, and knives on the otherside. The back arch I arranged withplated knives, forks and spoons. Fromthe centre of the side arches hung around board with the centre cut out andcovered with white cheese cloth. Inthese I stuck knives and scissors tomatch the arches, and on each side ofthese circles hung nickel trays. Fromthe centre arch hung a row of razor HARDWARE AND METAL. Cutlery and Silverware Window Trimmed by Walter Bate for Johnson & Co., Brandon, Man., last Christmas. 3 HARDWARE AND ME1AL strops. Around the top of the archesI placed nickel trays, tea pots, kettles, knives, etc., with a sprinkling of hollyintermixed. For the floor, I used three steps, thebottom one being 24 inches from thewindow, and the remaining ones 12inches deep. These I covered with whitecheese cloth on which I arranged car-vers, manicure .sets, ladies companions, fruit knives, berry spoons, soup ladles, cold meat forks, pie knives, platedspoons and forks, razors, shavingbrushes, ladies scissor sets, etc., witha sprinkling of holly. On all the casegoods I put a 3-inch round white priceticket with red figures. and, each knowing just what they want-ed, the time of the salesman would nothave been wasted in showing a largevariety of goods at different prices. The window is a corner one, withglass on three sides about 6x5^ feet insize. T
