The Carroll County Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the courthouse square proving a foreground to colorful building facades that date from the 19th century. The monument was dedicated in 1891 and honors the 1,284 Carroll County men who lost their lives during the American Civil War (1861-65), The statue atop the monument was crafted by famed sculpture Larado Taft. Mt. Carroll, a small town in northwestern Illinois is the county seat for Carroll County.
