International Space Station (ISS) at sunrise, artwork. The spacecraft backlit by the rising Sun is the European Space Agency's (ESA) Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), used to provide supplies for the ISS. This is the Jules Verne ATV, present at the ISS between April and September 2008. Progress and Soyuz capsules are docked to its right. ISS modules present include the science laboratories of Europe (Columbus, marked ESA) and Japan (Kibo, marked NASDA). The ISS, built in stages since 1998, orbits at an altitude of around 360 kilometres, has been crewed since 2000, and is expected to remain in operation until at least 2020.
