Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke during the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in front of the Ghetto Heroes Monument in Warsaw, Poland. Various representatives including Polish-Jewish organizations, members of the state and local governments, ambassadors, as well as those who are "Righteous Among Nations" attended the anniversary. It took place in an area which was part of the Warsaw Ghetto, at the spot where the first armed clash of the uprising took place. The 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising started on April 19, when Jewish residents of the ghetto refused surrender to the Nazi police commander. The entire ghetto was ordered to be burned and ended on May 16 1943. 13,000 Polish-Jews died during the uprising. It was the largest single revolt by Jews during World War II.
