Adult male.—General colour above, slaty-grey, wing- quills slightly darker with white bars on the inner webs; outer tail- feathers with about six complete white bars on the inner web, the bars diminish towards the central pair of feathers which are spotted with white along the shaft; throat, sides of the face, neck and upper breast pale grey, rest of the under surface and under wing- coverts white with narrow black transverse bars.
