CHAP. XXII. SUMMARY OiF TRIP. 293 I left Hamburg in the Zebra on Wednesday the 8th ofSeptember, and after a smooth passage landed in Hull onSaturday the 11th instant, having been away from home rathermore than twenty-seven weeks. Of this time the journeyout occupied about six weeks; another six weeks was spentin weary waiting for the arrival of spring; and the journeyhome took up a third period of six weeks, leaving only nineweeks in which the bulk of our ornithological work wasdone. Fortunately during this time we had twenty-fourhours daylight, of which we frequently availed dint of hard work and long hours we succeeded in doingmore in these nine weeks than we could possibly haveexpected. There can be no doubt that we were exceptionallyfortunate in chancing upon the localities frequented by birdswhich appear to be extremely local during the OLD ETJSSIAN SILVER CROSS.
