The loss of the Americans in officers, at the battleof Buena Vista, is a subject of sorrow and of the slain were officers. Many of these wereyoung men—in the full flush of hope and ambition, andendeared to their country by their valuable servicesduring long marches, and by their heroism on the fatalbattle-field.
