On the oth of October, 1675, about 300 savages madean attack on the town, killed three men and one woman, woundedmany others, and reduced 30 dwelling-houses and 25 barns to the 20th of December, 178G, Daniel Shays, at the head of 300insurgents, took possession of the court-house. On the 5th of Jan-uary following, he made an attempt, at the head of 1,100 men, totake possession of the arsenal. Gen. William Shepard, who com-manded the State forces, ordered them to fire into the ranks of theinsurgents; when three were killed
