He attended the Officers Training Camp at Plattsburg, in ; served as Capt., Co. M, 13th Regt., Mass. State enlisted Nov. 1, 1917, and was commissioned 1st Lieut.,, reported for duty at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Tex., , 1917, and was put in command of the 65th (later 477th) AeroSquadron. He sailed overseas March 4, 1918, and was commissioned Capt.,, Aug. 1, 1918. He was appointed Equipment Officer AirService, 1st Army, Oct. 14, 1918, and was stationed at Souillyfrom Oct. 14 until Dec. 24, 1918.
