Courtyard of the Myrtles in the Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain.

The Courtyard of the Myrtles in The Alhambra in Granada, Spain. The Comares was the focal point of political and diplomatic activity in the Alhambra and was likely where great receptions were held, and where importtant visitors waited to be received by the sultan. It dates from the 14th century. The courtyard owes its name to the myrtle bushes (Myrtus communis) which border the central pool. They are evergreen and give off a pleasant smell when their leaves are rubbed by the hand.
