At the ageof twelve he was sent to the Hill Top School atMendhani, New Jersey, which was under the direc-tion of the Fairchilds, remaining under their in-struction as the school was removed to ProspectHill at Madison, and later went to Green Brookin Plainfield. He was graduated from Princeton inthe Class of 1843. ihe year after graduation heassisted Mr. Fairchild, who had opened a prepara-tory school at Flushing, Long Island. He alsobegan the study of law, but did not seek admissionto the Bar, as his father, whose health was failing,needed the assistance of his son. Some time after-wards he became associated with Mr. Broadwell, hisfather-in-law, in the grocery business, first in York, and for fourteen years in -SAMUEL W. In politics he wasa Republican. While in College he was a memberof the Cliosophic Society. He was married toSarah Frances Broadwell, December 9, 1850, andhad three children : Charles Broadwell, Carrie andWilliam Sherman Corwin. Mr. Corwin died atAsbury Park, New Jersey, April 14, 1898. of the Military Order of Foreign Wars of the UnitedStates, and also holds membership in the LuzerneCounty, Lehigh Valley and State Medical Societies.
