Ancient Palairos perimeter wall.

Part of the north flank fortifications of Ancient Palairos. The city lies at the western end of Arcanania. The prominent location overlooks the surrounding plain and Lake Voulkaria, identified by Strabo as Ancient Myrtountion. Parailos exists at least as early as 6th century BC. After the battle of Actium, 31-30 BC, inhabitants of the city were obliged to abandon it forever, on order to take part in the synoecism, amalgamation of villages, that created the new city of Nikopolis further south.
