Designed by G. L Watson & Co, her gaff rig was converted to masthead by Charles Nicholson for the 1931 season to conform to parts of the Universal Rule which governed the J-Class. Britannia supported the ‘Big Class’ in the regatta circuit for much of the inter-war period. However, in January 1936 the King died and his will stipulated that Britannia should be towed out to St. Catherine’s Deep off the Isle of Wight where she was scuttled.
