This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product ExoMars rover, illustration. This rover is scheduled for launch in July 2020 and landing on Mars in March 2021. The rover has a drill (dark grey box) to extract rock samples to continue the search for evidence of life on Mars. Solar panels provide power, and the camera (on mast) and other sensors provide other data and images. In the background at centre left is the surface platform, which will be used to land and deploy the rover, and carry out other science objectives. Results will be relayed back to Earth by the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) that reached Mars orbit in 2016. The ExoMars missions are jointly carried out by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Russia's space agency (Roscosmos).
