1965 Lehman Peterson Lincoln Continental Topless Presidential Limousine
Every year, just before the Super Bowl, Barrett-Jackson puts on one of the biggest auto auctions in the country. It has been several years since I have attended, primarily due to the threat posed by the COVID pandemic. There were a dozen or more huge tents to protect the majority of the vehicles to be auctioned off. Unfortunately, it was cloudy which made photography a challenge (because of low light levels) and it was quite chilly which challenged me to be selective in the choice of cars to photograph. This topless 1965 Lehman Peterson Lincoln Continental topless presidential limousine was part of the presidential motor pool during the presidencies of Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford. It was sold under President Jimmy Carter's administration. It is powered by a 430ci V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission. Equipped with the typical Lincoln features (air conditioning has been disabled), it has a set of new Vogue whitewall tires, new brakes, a new fuel tank and system, and a complete service. This vehicle was used annually to host the Grand Marshals in the Rose Festival parade. Many celebrities and rock stars have been chauffeured in this car, including Al Unser Jr., Richard Petty, and Ahmad Rashad. Note the small platforms for Secret Service agents to stand on and hand holds on the trunk while protecting the President (or other dignitaries. This vehicle sold for $49,500.
