Corolla funnel formed, border 5-cleft, convergent. Capsule, didymous, 2-celled, 4-valved, many seeded.—JVuttall. S. Marilandica. Root, fibrous, perennial. Stem, herbaceous, 6-20 inches high,branching near the base, slightly vviuged, towards the summit , sessile, ovate lanceolate, acute, with the margin and veins underneathpubescent. Flowers, in a simple, terminal, secund raceme. Calyx, 5-leaved,persistent, leaves subulate acute, finely serrulate. Corolla, 1-pctal, tube an-gled, ventricose, five times as long as the calyx, yellow witbin, crimson with-out, border 5-cluft, segments acute, somewhat expanded.
