Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) at a water hole. The giraffe at left is spreading its legs to lower its head to the water's surface. This even-toed ungulate mammal is the tallest living land animal and the largest ruminant. It can grow to a height of metres and weigh over a tonne. Feeding mainly on the twigs and leaves of trees, it is found on the grasslands and scrublands of sub-Saharan Africa. Photographed in Namibia.
