Kathmandu. Pashupatinath Hindu Temple and crematoria

Pashupatinath Hindu Temple is the main crematoria in Kathmandu. There are no cemeteries in Kathmandu. In accordance with Hindu and Buddhist custom the dead are to be cremated within the day they die. Once the cremation is complete, the remains of the funeral pyre are swept into the adjacent Bagmati Holy River. The photo shot family members preparing their relative for cremation that is considered an temple is also home to several groups of Brahmin Holy men, one shown here in attendance to offer prayers.
