(incorporatedin 1907), leading tanners and wholesale jobbers of leather, is a native of Lancaster, Massachusetts, born on the* 15th of August, 1855, being a son of Charles Lewis and Harriet Ellen (Harris) Wilder. He obtainedthe foundation of his education in his native town, chiefly at theLancaster Academy, afterward pursuing a course at the Worcester(Mass.) Polytechnic Institute, from which he graduated with thedegree of B. S. Wilder he established a leather commissionbusiness in 1878, and in the following year formed the firm of John-son & Wilder, manufacturers of cut soles. This was succeeded byWilder & Hale in 1880, and in 1887 the business assumed its presentname, Wilder & Co., with himself as senior partner and John as junior. The business covers a number of specialties, asbesides tanning and wholesale jobbing the firm manufactures cut soleand shoe bottom stock. For years the Wilder brothers had followedthe co-operative plan in the conduct of their business with the bestfinancial and most harmonious results, making it a practice to see thattheir employes prospered with them.
