Her father, Garrett Cavanaugh, was awell known confectioner on Water Street. New-burgh, and was also similarly engaged in NewYork Cit>-. He died March 23, 1893. Hermother, Sarah A., was a native of England, anda daughter of William Hood, who was closely re-lated to the famous English poet, Thomas Cavanaugh is still living, and now makesher home in Balmville. Mrs. Stocker was edu-cated in the Newburgh Free Academy, and is acultured and amiable lady. Doubtless fewof the residents of Newburgh have pro-moted its educational interests in such an im-portant degree as has Dr. Montfort, whose twen-ty-one years of .service as Superintendent ofvSchools render him thoroughly familiar with thework, and qualify him for the intelligent manage-ment of affairs. His long retention in the posi-tion, and the ailvancement which the schoolshave made under his administration, prove hisfitness for the work better than mere words coulddo. In addition to this position, he is officiatingas Clerk of the Board of Education, and also en-gages in the practice of his profession. The Montfort family is of French-Huguenotorigin. T
