Map of the Moon by the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687) published in Selenographia, sive Lunae description (Selenography, or A Description of The Moon) in 1647. This map was one of the first comprehensive lunar maps and was based on Hevelius's meticulous telescopic observations from his private observatory. Selenographia is a work dedicated entirely to the moon – with 111 plates and engravings, which Hevelius had drawn and engraved himself.
