Serpentine tunnels in a leaf of blackberry, Rubus fruticosus, made by the larva of the Blackberry pygmy moth (Golden pygmy moth ), Stigmella aurella. S. aurella is a micro-moth, with a wingspan of about 7mm, found throughout Southern Europe including England, and the Near East. Although common and widespread, the adult moth is rarely noticed during its flight period (summer ). Mined leaves by contrast are a striking feature of blackberry plants in winter. As a potential fruit crop pest, the moth is in practice of little commercial importance
