Any unknown resist-ance, such as that ofrelay points in an elec-tric signal system, canbe measured by connecting to binding posts suitablylabelled. A plug is inserted in one of the sockets markedrespectively blue, red and black, and the stylus is tappedalong the wire which is stretched above the scale. Theresistance is then read direct from the scale at thepoint where there is a zero deflection on the galvanome-ter. This is a convenient type of a small, light, portableinstrument, and its ranges have purposely been changedfrom those of previous designs to adapt it to signalsystem DIRECT READING OHMMETER ESPE-CIALLY ADAPTED TO SIGNALWORK 792 ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL [Vol. XLVII, No. 17 NEWS OF ELECTRIC RAILWAYS WORK ON NORFOLK FRANCHISE COMPLETEDCommittee Which Has Been Considering Blanket FranchiseTerms Presents Its Findings The special committee of the Council of Norfolk, Va.,which has been at work since Feb. 8, 1915, upon the termsof a new franchise for the Virginia Railway & Power Com-pany, has presented its findings.
