'Arrival of Cardinal Wolsey at Leicester Abbey, 1530'. By Sir John Gilbert (1817-1897). On 4th November 1530 Cardinal Wolsey (c1473-1530) was arrested for treason. Whilst travelling from Yorkshire to London, where Wolsey would be held prisoner. The journey took Wolsey through Leicester, and he arrived at the abbey on 26th November where he was met by the Father Abbott. Falling ill Wolsey died there four day later on 30th November 1530.
