Roller skiing is a non-snow equivalent to cross-country skiing. Emulating skis, elongated inline skates, with wheels at the ends, Balmoral Castle,

Huntly Nordic Ski Club has found itself at the centre of a lively debate about what sort of rollerskis should be allowed in races. Over the past years racers competing at Huntly have been obliged to race on similar roller skis. These are typically the club Marwe rollerskis with a fat wheel known as a 'barrel roller'. The idea being that specifying the rollerski type allows the racers to compete purely on the basis of their own ability not their ability to go out and buy the latest set of wheels. Elsewhere, however, competitors are allowed to select the rollerski they compete on. Scottish Rollerskiing has really grown in popularity in recent years and with only about three months of snow cover (in a good year!); a lot of skiers spend the bulk of their cross-country ski training on rollerskis. It is suitable for all three types of training - distance, technique and strength. Distance training needs somewhere long enough to allow you to ski for two hours without getting bored, hilly enough to keep you working, and with good run-outs to allow safe descents.
