Photonics laser, Intel research. Silicon photonic integrated circuit held in the hands of US solid-state physicist and researcher Mario J. Paniccia. Paniccia works for Intel Corporation, which he joined in 1995, rising to the role of Chief Technology Officer of the Silicon Photonics Lab. At Intel, he and his team developed silicon photonics technology and demonstrated various forms of silicon-based lasers. Paniccia obtained his doctorate in 1994 from Purdue University. He is an Intel Fellow and was made a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2010. Photographed in October 2011.
