Southeast Lighthouse, Block Island

Southeast Lighthouse, Block Island, Rhode Island, United States (New England) Block Island Southeast Light is a lighthouse located on Mohegan Bluffs at the southeastern corner of Block Island, Rhode Island. The light was built in 1874, with the lamp first lit in February 1875. The Coast Guard deactivated the light in 1990 and replaced it with a nearby steel tower. In 1993 the structure was moved about 300 feet back from the cliffs because of continuous erosion. The lighthouse has a museum and gift shop at the base of the tower. The tower is open during the summer season with guided tours. A fee of ten dollars is charged as of 2015. Proceeds are used for restoration of the lighthouse.
