Abide from its fame as the great-est of all financial centres, the street derives piquancyand zest from the thrills and excitement of meet-ing face to face most of the men whose names arefamiliar to the reading public. 62. NEW YORK OF TO-DAY 65 All the great captains of industry; the capitalistswhose every move 13 recorded by the press; distin-guished visitors from foreign countries; railroadpresidents, various dignitaries in the shape of steelkings, rubber kings, sugar kings, oil kings and lessermembers of the royal families of commerce andmanufacture may all be seen here. The comingsand goings of the late J. Pierpont Morgan werealways moments of delightful excitement to thevisitor and something to speak about when he gothack home. Mr. Morgans photograph was so fre-quently printed that he was easily recognized. Thesame is true of Mr. Kockefcller. With these two ex-ceptions, however, most of the big men of the street,like the present J. P. Morgan P. Davison,though well known by name to the ,eannot very well be identified from the portraitsthat occasionally appear.
