The view over the Marine and Corniche from the rooftop of the Four Seasons Hotel in Beirut. After 30 years embroiled in embittered ethnic and religious wars, which left this Mediterranean city ravaged and war torn, Beirut is embarking on a major facelift. The Downtown district- razed during the war- is being rebuilt and international hotel groups, like Four Season's, are opening plush hotels to cater to the city's budding tourism industry. For now, much of the investment- and tourism- is coming from the Gulf states. Beirut is famous for its illicit and glitzy nightlife, a left over from the 60's when the city was the most fashionable in the Middle East.
