Jack William Szostak (born 1952), Canadian-US biologist. Szostak was born to Polish parents, in London UK. He is currently (as of 2012) Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, USA, and Alexander Rich Distinguished Investigator at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. He received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (jointly with Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider), for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres. Szoztak's other honours include the Lasker Award (2006). Photographed in June 2011, at the Starmus Festival, the Canary Islands.
