View NNW of Daniel Gumb's shelter below the Cheeswring granite tor on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, UK. Gumb was an C18th stonecutter & memorial mason who lived with his family in a rock shelter he excavated in the Cheesewring granite quarry. This reconstructed feature of granite blocks once formed the porch to that shelter which has been quarried away (the quarry is fenced off). Gumb used the massive roof slab as an astronomical observatory & carved on it a Euclidean geometric problem (plane geometry, sometimes described as Masonic or Bardic symbols). He also inscribed "D Gumb 1785" on the boulder to the R of the entrance. Some of his carved headstones are in local churchyards such as Linkinhorne.
