Dunmow flitch trials Great Dunmow Essex UK July 2022. The Dunmow Flitch trials are a mock trial where married couples who have been married at least a year and a day are tried by a mock court to see if they have ever wanted to be unwed. A successful couple is awarded a flitch of bacon. The jury consists of six maidens and six bachelors. The judge is a real lawyer. Counsel appear for either the applicants or the donors of the bacon. The flitch trial goes back at least 900 years. The participants process through Dunmow to a marquee where the trial takes place. Counsel addresses the court
