A lonely lady enjoying the sunset, at Lycodemus beach, Cythera (or "Kythira") island, Greece. According to Greek Mythology, Cythera island is one of the 2 possible birthplaces of Aphrodite (Venus). The other one is Cyprus. Cythera is a really special island, quite unique for many different reasons, doesn't look like any other greek island, while at the same time reminds simoultaneously, totally diferent places of Greece. It is located to the south of Peloponesus, and partially reminds the landscapes of that region of Greece, while other parts remind Crete, not only for its nature but also for the traditional architecture in some of its villages. It is the "7" of Eptanisa (="Sevenislands", a different name for the Ionian islands), while it's quite far from the other 6. In fact it is located at the "crossroads" of the Ionian, Aegean and Cretan Seas. What's even more strange, it's that despite all the things written above, it belongs, in terms of administration, to the Prefecture of Attica, while it is a few hundred miles away. About its beaches now. The most of them and the most "popular" among them are located on the eastern shore of the island. But there are also some beautiful small beaches on the western part, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset. One of them is Lycodemus beach, where I took this photo. That particular beach has a spectacular background of vertical rocks in strange shapes and colours. Normally, at that time of day, you can see the sun sinking behind the middle "foot" of Peloponesus, behind the bare mountains of Mani, but that particular day the atmosphere was very dim.
