Breast reconstruction. Semi-permanent make-up has been applied to the right breast (left) to make the nipple and areola look more natural following breast reconstruction. Such tattooing improves the look of a reconstructed breast and is of important psychological benefit to a woman who has undergone a partial or full mastectomy due to breast cancer. Hypo-allergenic natural pigments are gently inserted into the dermal layer of the skin through a sterilized needle. The area is first treated with local anaesthetic. The pigment remains in the skin for up to five years.
