Charloun Rieu monument, Les Baux de Provence, South of France
Standing proudly on the edge of a large rock plateau overlooking the Valley of the Rhone, the Plain of Crau and the Alpilles lies the stone monument raised in memory of the Provencal poet, Charloun Rieu (1846-1924). Rieu, who resided in the nearby village of Le Paradou, belonged to the circle of Felibres around Frederic Mistral. It was this association that led to the renaissance of the Provencal language and its culture.
