Prostate cancer treatment. Doctor injecting a zoladex pellet into a 75 year old man's abdomen. The prostate is a small gland found just below the bladder in men. Zoladex, used to treat prostate cancer, belongs to a group of drugs known as LHRH (luteinising hormone-releasing hormone) blockers. It acts on the pituitary gland in the brain to prevent it producing luteinising hormone, the hormone that tells the testes to produce testosterone. In prostate tumours that are sensitive to testosterone, this causes the tumour to shrink. It does not provide a cure, but does increase life expectancy.
