Couch was a Victorian provincial naturalist, a trained physician whose interests included zoology, botany, geology, ichthyology, archaeology, and the author of A History of the Fishes of the British Islands. Plaque marks the birthplace of naturalist Jonathan Couch on 15th March 1789. Couch studied the natural history of Cornish sea fish by working with local fishermen. He was the grandfather of Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch ("Q")
