Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussman is one of the most famous department stores in the world. It started life in 1895 when two businessmen opened a small clothing shop inside a haberdashers on Rue La Fayette. Over the next 15 years they grew their business and up bought properties in the area – and in 1912 the iconic Art Nouvaeu steel and glass dome was completed. In 2009, the company that owns the store reported earnings of over 1 billion euros.
