In 1866, heresigned from the volunteer seiSice. From 1866to 1868, he was governor of Ohio, and PresidentGrants Secretary of the Interior in 1869. Hewas prominent in politics, finance, and the lawuntil his death, which occurred at Magnolia, Mas-sachusetts, August 4, 1900. [9081.
