Richly structured rock surface with some moss - detail view of the vertical wall of the Bornstein, which is part of the Bruchhauser Steine

The photo shows a detail of the Bornstein, one of the four Bruchhauser Steine. The Bruchhauser Steine consist of four rocks up to 90 m high, which are made of porphyry rock, a very hard rock. As one of the most important geotopes in Germany, the Bruchhauser Steine have been awarded the title of "National Geotope". The Bruchhauser Steine are not only a unique natural monument, but also an impressive cultural monument. Excavation findings prove that they were already visited by people about 6,000 years ago.
