New-York, December 24. Some Weeks ago we had Advices ofmany Robberies committed at Philadelphia, and it was thenthought the Gang intended towards New York:—How well thoseImaginations were founded, we cant determine: but of late wehave heard of several losses from Shops and Houses in this City, and several Eves-droppers have been observed, tlio not anyHouses actually broke open as we can learn. Last Week a Shop-. 657 lifter was taken, in attempting, as tis said, to carry off a Piece ofLinnen, and committed to Jail: and we are informed, one Gentle-man, on searching a Place he had Suspicion of, has found nearsixty Pounds worth of Goods, which had been stolen ffom him ;and several others have also found Goods they had lost. Peopleare cautioned to beware of unknown Persons coming into theirShops ; for it seems these have fallen upon a different Methodthan was practisd at Philadlphia : Altho we have some Rea-son to believe this is not the same Gang; yet perhaps the Infec-tion may spread, by the Philadelpldnns not being able to apply aproper Medicine in Time for that Distemper there : Therefore tishoped, that if any more Symptoms should appear, a little Alca-line Hemp may be prescribed to some of our Patients here, beforethe Disease becomes too violent and dangerous.—N.
