PITT, William (London 1708-Hayes, 1778), first Earl of Chatham, called "Pitt the Elder" or "Prime Pitt. Also konwn as The Great Commoner. British politician. He joined the ranks of Commons "Whig" in 1735. He headed the government between 1757 and 1761. Engraving.
