Horse Drowning Appleby Fair 2007 10
One of a sequence of images taken at Appleby Horse Fair 2007, The images are numbered sequentially in the caption 1 to 20. They show the handler of the horse repeatedly forcing the horses head under water until due to weakness and inability to struggle any further the horse sank to the bottom of the river. After the horse sank the spectators who had witnessed this event and were very vocal in telling the handler to let the horse loose, came to the aid of the Pony raised it from the bottom of the river and dragged its lifeless body to the bank, all efforts to resuscitate failed. The RSPCA and police who were in attendance winched the horse from the river and took away the corpse. The Handler fled the scene but was later caught and brought to justice.
