THE INTERPRETATION OF RADIOGRAPHS. 073 The enchondromata, or chontlral osteoinata, ajipear in the neighborhoodof the joints as irreguhir masses of cartilage containing calcareous matter, oras true exostoses. They are supposedly formed from l^its of cartilage left liehindin irregular epiphyseal development. They are usually multii)le and are foundin various joint regions (Fig. 251). Bone Tumors. Sarcomata are by far the connnonest bone tumors, and the distinguishingcharacteristic of many of the types can be discovered by the x-rays.
