Air Raid Shelter in the Basement of Dickins and Jones, Regent Street, London, England, 1940 As the public canteen in the basement shelter of Dickins and Jones department store used to be the staff restaurant, all kitchen facilities were already in place. Here we see three ladies in the process of washing up and drying the dishes, whilst a man brings another tray of cups and saucers to the kitchen for washing. This photograph was taken in November 1940.
