General Washington received it with an ap-propriate letter under date of June 8, 1778. General Washington having been unanimouslychosen president of the United States in 1789, arrivedin Baltimore on his way to Congress at New York onthe 17th of April. He was met some miles from townby a large body of respectable citizens on horsebackand conducted to Mr. Grants tavern. A great numberof citizens were presented and were graciously receivedby this illustrious man. The address in behalf of the citizens of Baltimorewas signed by the following persons: ?James McHenry R.
