(C. mini-num Roxb.), C. frutescens_ L. and other small-fruited species grown invarious parts of Africa, the East Indies, and tropical America. Zanzibar Cayenne pepper, one of the best grades, consists of smallpods to 2 cm. long, of a dull-red color, together with slender, moreor less detached stems. The seeds are but 3-4 mm. in diameter. Bombay peppers, known also as capsicums, are an inferior gradeof Cayenne pepper, said to come from the vicinity of the river Niger inAfrica, not as the name would indicate, from India.
