The more so as the figuresof the profane subjects, as well as the picture of the Transfiguration, were exclusively designed for this place,no other figures of the same class being met with inany of the previous works by the painter either in Rome,Florence, or in any other part of Italy. Nor can Iagree with Marchesi in his suggestion that the paintingswere begun in the year 1500, because this date alludesto the year in which they were completed, it being Pietrosinvariable habit to mark his pictures with the date of theyear
