Rooftop view of the Weighing house, ( in Dutch "De Waegh" ) in the historic city of Monnickendam, North Holland, The Netherlands. There was already a weighing house in Monnickendam in 1382. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1666. The current De Waegh dates from 1668, built from the remains of its predecessor. The Waegh was the economic hub of the city and in fact had two functions; A Weighing house- the building (inside) and the Stock Exchange (outside under the canopy). The building was used for weighing and handling of butter, cheese and cereals. The original balance sheets are a nice detail from that time. The upstairs room was used as the meeting room of the town council. The decoration on the rooftop depicts the coat of arms of Monnickendam. It's shield with a wreath of oak leaves above a monk's head. He isarmed with a wooden club, and flanked by two griffins .
