Dayr al-Madinah, Egypt, aerial view. This village is located on the west bank of the Nile, at Thebes in Upper Egypt. It contains an ancient settlement, known as the 'workmen's village', which was the home for craftsmen who laboured on the royal tombs in the nearby Valley of the Kings. The site has provided large amounts of archaeological artefacts and documents relating to everyday life in ancient Egypt. To the right of the village is a walled complex containing the Ptolemaic Temple of Hathor, Temple of Amenhotp I and the Hathor chapel of Seti I.
